OUR MOST UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE
APARTMENT LIVING
One thing we agree upon is that we were completely unprepared for navigating through our most unexpected adventure of all!
We just moved out of our lovely 4100 sq. foot home and into an 1100 sq. foot luxury apartment. This of course was our most significant life changing step to-date but life really didn’t give us time to appreciate all that we had accomplished. The idea of apartment living was so intriguing to us. Our apartment complex was like a hotel that you never have to leave. Our two bedroom apartment overlooked a beautiful pool and courtyard. There was a gym, business center, boardroom, movie theatre, entertainment room, party space, playground, mail and package delivery rooms and several cozy common areas. To say we were excited was an understatement!
DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING
We officially moved out of our house and into the apartment March 10, just before Coronavirus hit the United States hard. Three days after moving in our apartment building the complex closed all of the common areas and amenities until further notice. We were in shock and completely unprepared for what was about to come next. A few days after that all public schools in Maryland were closed. We were trying to grasp what was happening with the virus and digest the information that was being provided. Kade is three and attends a Goddard school. While his school remained opened we decided to pause his attendance while we figured things out. We knew we were doing what was best for Kade and our family but now he would be with us each and everyday. It’s kind of ironic that’s ultimately what we want but at the time it certainly wasn’t the most ideal. We were now both trying to work full time, maintain our side businesses and build out Adventurtunity Family all while entertaining and teaching Kade in a very small space. It was a complete sh*t show.
At first we managed a schedule during the week where Spencer and I would take turns working. And would head to see family on the weekends. Our family was practicing social distancing too so we all felt safe spending time together. At the end of week three living in the apartment the Maryland stay home orders became stricter just as we learned someone in our apartment building was diagnosed with the virus.
MOVING AGAIn
It felt as though we couldn’t catch a break. Most of our excitement had dissolved as fear and questioning our decisions started to seep in. Each decision we had to make we made on what we thought was best for Kade and our family.
So in three weeks time we went from 4100 sq. foot living space to 1100 sq. feet and then all the way down to two small bedrooms. We moved in with my parents to wait out the pandemic. We had to move quick due to the stay at home orders so we packed very little which didn’t seem to bother Kade or Spencer. Me on the other hand… I took it as a dose of reality for what was hopefully to come later in the year.
You’d think we would have gotten settled by now but we continued to experience hurdle after hurdle. We were way behind on planning Adventurtunity Family, we weren’t able to travel to buy an RV, the enthusiasm we had for teaching Kade was dwindling and Kristi was diagnosed with Bells Palsy. Finding a work life balance was non existent! We were working whenever we could, staying up late, and sleeping in. Add in the adjustment of four adults and a toddler living together you can only imagine we were surviving not thriving.
CHANGING OUR MINDSET
It was about mid May when we realized we had to get it together. And after a few conversations we did just that by changing our mindset. This time wasn’t a burden it was time to take opportunities we wouldn’t normally have when living in the daily grind. Some weeks were better than others which is to be expected. We started to create to-do lists, assigned roles, projects and deadlines. At the top of our list was to hone our photo and video skills and get back on track with our Adventurtunity Family plans.
We headed down to North and South Carolina to spend a few weeks with family, moved out of our apartment and bought an RV! Haha, yes you read that right we bought an RV!
But I’m going to leave you on that note. If there is something you really want out of life dig in! Anything is possible with hard work and determination. The cards seemed to be stacking against us but we locked arms and stacked ourselves against the cards!
